To create a new resource type you should place the section below in your config.asp file. Note that the options you can use are described in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers Guide/ASP/Configuration/Resource Types/Built-in|Built-in resource types]] section.

Example: You want to create a resource type MSdocs which will only have doc,ppt,xls extensions and be maximum 2 megabites large.

Set ResourceTypes(3) = DefineResourceType( _
"MSdocs", _
baseUrl & "MSdocs", _
baseDir & "MSdocs", _
2M, _
"doc,ppt,xls", _
"" _
)

The CKFinder will use all the resources types including the one specifies by you.
You must adjust the array definition to include your new resources:

Dim ResourceTypes(3)

If you want to limit the CKFinder to use only your resource type you must place it in the <nowiki>CKFinder_Config.Add "DefaultResourceTypes", ""</nowiki> field. Example'':''

CKFinder_Config.Add "DefaultResourceTypes", "MSdocs"

ResourceType.Add "allowedExtensions", allowedExtensions
ResourceType.Add "deniedExtensions", deniedExtensions

These resources will be enabled if this option:

CKFinder_Config.Add "DefaultResourceTypes", ""

is left empty. If not you may specify what resources types you want to use by placing their names separated by a comma.

=== Changing the default resources ===

Every resource type has several options which you may change.

'''url''' and '''directory''' - you can place any url adress and directory you wish but be sure that their specification will follow the rules reffering to '''url''' and '''directory''' in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers Guide/ASP.NET/Configuration/Quick Start|Quick Start]] section.

'''maxSize''' - is the maximum size of the uploaded image defined in bytes.You may also use shorthand notation. Available options are: G, M, K (case insensitive). Remember that: 1M equals 1048576 bytes (one Megabyte), 1K equals 1024 bytes (one Kilobyte), 1G equals one Gigabyte. Example: 'maxSize' => "8M",

You can use the following settings to list the file extensions that can be upload to the server:

* '''allowedExtensions''' - the extensions you wish CKFinder to use. If left empty, only DeniedExtensions is used to check uploads.
* '''deniedExtensions''' - the extensions you don't wish the CKFinder to use.

'''Important: It is recommended''' to always use the allowedExtensions setting, in favor of deniedExtensions. If you leave '''allowedExtensions''' empty and you define an extension in '''deniedExtensions''', for example "pdf", it will allow the upload of all the other files except the files with the "pdf" extension. However it isn't a good way to secure your server from unwanted uploads. The best way is to put all of the preferred extensions in '''allowedExtensions'''. That's the only way to effectively secure your server from hacker's attacks.

To create a new resource type you should append the following lines of code anywhere after the "ResourceType type;" line in the configuration file.

For example, if want to create a resource type named MSdocs which will only accept files with the "doc", "ppt" and "xls" extensions, restricting the file size to 2 megabytes:

'''Resource Types''' are ways to organize the files in your server by type, or to group them under different features. For example, you may have a resource type called Images, where only image files can be uploaded.

== Standard Resource Types ==

There are three built-in resources types in CKFinder: '''Files''', '''Images''' and '''Flash'''. They appear in the configuration file as below:

ResourceType type;

type = ResourceType.Add( "Files" );

== DefaultResourceTypes
==

When opening CKFinder, you may specify which Resource Type to make visible by appending '''?type=<TypeName>''' to the CKFinder URL. If instead the type is not passed in the URL, the DefaultResourceTypes setting will be used to identify which Resource Types to load. If blank, all Resource Types will be displayed. For example:

// Show all Resource Types:
DefaultResourceTypes = "";

// Show the "Images" and "Files" Resource Types only (separated by comma):
DefaultResourceTypes = "Images,Files";

== Resource Type Options ==

For each resource type you may set several options to precisely configure its behavior.

=== Url and Dir ===

Define the base URL address and the server directory to use to handle and publish the files for this Resource Type. They follow the same rules as defined in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers Guide/ASP.NET/Configuration/Quick Start#Base URL and Directory|Quick Start]] section for the '''BaseUrl''' and '''BaseDir''' settings.

=== MaxSize ===

It's the maximum size allowed for uploaded file defined in Bytes.

=== Allowed'''Extensions and DeniedExtensions''' ===

You can use this settings to list the file extensions that can be upload to the server.

Sets the maximum size of the thumbnails displayed in CKFinder. These values are expressed in pixels.
Sets the quality level used to produce thumbnails in a range from 1 to 100. The smaller the quality the smaller the size of the thumbnail files. Notice that an acceptable value should not be less than 45. For quality thumbnails, 80 is more than sufficient.

=== Resources types ===

There are three built-in resources types in CKFinder: '''files''', '''images''' and '''flash'''. They appear in the config.php file as below:

config.resourceType[1] = structNew();
config.resourceType[1].name = 'Files';
config.resourceType[1].url = config.baseUrl & 'files';
config.resourceType[1].allowedExtensions = '7z,aiff,asf,avi,bmp,csv,doc,fla,flv,gif,gz,gzip,jpeg,jpg,mid,mov,mp3,mp4,mpc,mpeg,mpg,ods,odt,pdf,png,ppt,pxd,qt,ram,rar,rm,rmi,rmvb,rtf,sdc,sitd,swf,sxc,sxw,tar,tgz,tif,tiff,txt,vsd,wav,wma,wmv,xls,xml,zip';
config.resourceType[1].deniedExtensions = '';

config.resourceType[2] = structNew();
config.resourceType[2].name = 'Images';
config.resourceType[2].url = config.baseUrl & 'images';
config.resourceType[2].directory = config.baseDir & 'images';
config.resourceType[2].maxSize = 0;
config.resourceType[2].allowedExtensions = 'bmp,gif,jpeg,jpg,png';
config.resourceType[2].deniedExtensions = '';

config.resourceType[3] = structNew();
config.resourceType[3].name = 'Flash';
config.resourceType[3].url = config.baseUrl & 'flash';
config.resourceType[3].directory = config.baseDir & 'flash';
config.resourceType[3].maxSize = 0;
config.resourceType[3].allowedExtensions = 'swf,flv';
config.resourceType[3].deniedExtensions = '';

These resources will be enabled if this option:

config.defaultResourceTypes = '';

is left empty. If not you may specify what resources types you want to use by placing their names separated by a comma.

=== Changing the default resources ===

Every resource type has several options which you may change.

'''url''' and '''directory''' - you can place any url adress and directory you wish but be sure that their specification will follow the rules reffering to '''baseUrl''' and '''baseDir''' in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers Guide/ColdFusion/Configuration/Quick Start|Quick Start]] section.

Regardless of chosen method, the following properties are available in the CKFinder object in both cases:

* '''BasePath''' - The URL path for the installation folder of CKFinder. Default value: "/ckfinder/".
* '''Width''' - The CKFinder width (for example: 600, '80%'). Default value: "100%".
* '''Height''' - The CKFinder height (for example: 500, '100%'). Default value: 400.
* '''[[CKFinder_1.x/SelectFunction|SelectFunction]]''' - An optional function to be called when the user selects a file in CKFinder.
* '''[[CKFinder_1.x/SelectFunction#SelectFunctionData|SelectFunctionData]]''' - An optional argument of type string that will be passed to the "SelectFunction". Please refer to the js/popups.html file for a usage example.
* '''[[CKFinder_1.x/SelectThumbnailFunction|SelectThumbnailFunction]]''' - An optional function to be called when the user selects a thumbnail in CKFinder. Default value: "SelectFunction" (if "SelectFunction" is set).
* '''[[CKFinder_1.x/SelectThumbnailFunction#SelectThumbnailFunctionData|SelectThumbnailFunctionData]]''' - An optional argument of type string that will be passed to the "SelectThumbnailFunction".
* '''[[CKFinder_1.x/SelectThumbnailFunction#DisableThumbnailSelection|DisableThumbnailSelection]]''' - If set to true, "Select thumbnail" item will not appear in the context menu. Default value: false.
* '''ResourceType''' - Resource type to display. By default CKFinder displays all available resource types. If ResourceType property is set, CKFinder will display only specified resource type (e.g. "Files", "Images").
* '''StartupPath''' - Resource Type and the name of the startup folder, separated with a colon (for example: "Files:/", "Images:/cars/"). If defined, CKFinder will open the selected folder automatically.
* '''StartupFolderExpanded''' - Used only when "StartupPath" is set. If set to true, the initial folder will be opened automatically on startup.
* '''RememberLastFolder''' - If set to true, CKFinder will remember the last used folder in a cookie. In some cases, it may be required to store the name of last used folder in separate cookies for different CKFinder instances, in such case, assign the "{{ #ifeq: {{{language}}} | aspnet | CKFinderId | Id }}" property (explained below). Default value: true.
* '''{{ #ifeq: {{{language}}} | aspnet | CKFinderId | Id }}''' - Used to identify the CKFinder object, optional. If set, the "{{ #ifeq: {{{language}}} | aspnet | CKFinderId | Id }}" variable will be passed to the server connector on each request. When "RememberLastFolder" is enabled and the "{{ #ifeq: {{{language}}} | aspnet | CKFinderId | Id }}" is set, CKFinder will remember the last directory in a separate cookie.
* '''ClassName''' - The name of the CSS class rule assigned to the CKFinder frame. Default value: "CKFinderFrame".

== Enabling sessions ==

It is quite possible, that you'll use session variables in the configuration file (config.cfm), for example when setting up the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers_Guide/ColdFusion/Configuration/Access_Control|Access Control]] or writing the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers_Guide/ColdFusion/Configuration/Quick_Start|CheckAuthentication]] function.

Please remember that you have to enable session management in your application before use of session variables becomes available.

* In '''ColdFusion 6.1''', create the '''Application.cfm''' file and place it in the ckfinder folder:

<cfapplication
Name = "CKFinder_Connector"
SessionManagement = true
ApplicationTimeout = "#CreateTimeSpan( 0, 0, 5, 0 )#"
SessionTimeout = "#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,45,0)#"
SetClientCookies = true
>

* If you are running '''ColdFusion 7''' (or later), create a similar '''Application.cfc''' file and place it in the ckfinder folder:

<cfcomponent displayname="Application" output="false" hint="Pre-page processing for the application">
<cfscript>
THIS.Name = "CKFinder_Connector";
THIS.ApplicationTimeout = "#CreateTimeSpan( 0, 0, 5, 0 )#";
THIS.SessionTimeout = "#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,45,0)#";
THIS.SessionManagement = true;
THIS.SetClientCookies = true;
</cfscript>
</cfcomponent>

Because each Application has its own unique session scope, you will probably have to modify the name of the application in the initialization files. Open:
*
ckfinder/Application.cfc

*
ckfinder/core/connector/cfm/Application.cfc

and adjust
THIS.Name
variable, you should use the same name that your main application uses.

After you have enabled session variables using
sessionManagement
, you can start using them in your code (and in configuration file):

<cfset SESSION.CKFinder_UserRole = "admin">

Note: session variables can be disabled globally in the ColdFusion Administrator. In such case, you will not be able to use session variables, regardless of what you set the sessionManagement attribute to.

More information about session handling can be found in the [http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/00001156.htm ColdFusion documentation].

CKFinder is an Ajax application where the front end is completely written in JavaScript, which communicates to the server through XML messages. In the server side, there is a “connector”, written in a specific server language, which handles the front end requests. The following graphic illustrates it:
The following tasks must be accomplished by the Connector:

* Receive CKFinder requests.
* Manage operations in the File System, like folder and files creations and listings.
* Build the XML response in the right format and syntax.
* Receive and handle file uploads from the File Browser.
* Generate image thumbnails.

== Enabling sessions ==

It is quite possible, that you'll use session variables in the configuration file (config.php), for example when setting up the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers_Guide/PHP/Configuration/Access_Control|Access Control]] or writing the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers_Guide/PHP/Configuration/Quick_Start|CheckAuthentication()]] function.

Please remember that you have to start your session before use of $_SESSION becomes available.
In most cases it can be done by uncommenting the "session_start()" call in the configuration file:

session_start();

Once enabled, session variables can be accessed using the global $_SESSION array:

$_SESSION['CKFinder_UserRole'] = "admin";

Please do not call session_start() in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers_Guide/PHP/Configuration/Quick_Start|CheckAuthentication()]] function body, it is recommended to call session_start() at the beginning of config.php instead.

More information about session handling can be found in [http://php.net/manual/en/ref.session.php PHP manual].

Example: You want to create a resource type MSdocs which will only have files with the doc,ppt,xls extensions and be maximum 2 megabites large.

== Default resources ==

=== Resources types ===

There are three built-in resources types in CKFinder: '''files''', '''images''' and '''flash'''. They appear in the config.php file as below:

$config['ResourceType'][] = Array(
'maxSize' => 0,
'allowedExtensions' => '7z,aiff,asf,avi,bmp,csv,doc,fla,flv,gif,gz,gzip,jpeg,jpg,mid,mov,mp3,mp4,mpc,mpeg,mpg,ods,odt,pdf,png,ppt,pxd,qt,ram,rar,rm,rmi,rmvb,rtf,sdc,sitd,swf,sxc,sxw,tar,tgz,tif,tiff,txt,vsd,wav,wma,wmv,xls,xml,zip',
'deniedExtensions' => '');

$config['ResourceType'][] = Array(
'name' => 'Images',
'url' => $baseUrl . 'images',
'directory' => $baseDir . 'images',
'maxSize' => 0,
'allowedExtensions' => 'bmp,gif,jpeg,jpg,png',
'deniedExtensions' => '');

$config['ResourceType'][] = Array(
'name' => 'Flash',
'url' => $baseUrl . 'flash',
'directory' => $baseDir . 'flash',
'maxSize' => 0,
'allowedExtensions' => 'swf,flv',
'deniedExtensions' => '');

These resources will be enabled if this option:

$config['DefaultResourceTypes'] = '';

is left empty. You may specify what resources types you want to use by placing their names separated by a comma.

== Resource Type Options ==

For each resource type you may set several options to precisely configure its behavior.

'''url''' and '''directory''' - define the base URL address and the server directory to use to handle and publish the files for this Resource Type. They follow the same rules as defined in the [[CKFinder_1.x/Developers Guide/PHP/Configuration/Quick Start|Quick Start]] section for the '''$baseUrl''' and '''$baseDir''' settings.
